Hello, visitor from 38.107.191.98 - thanks for stopping by!

Idiot's Delight Chat:
Gone due to server move. Update, June 2008: The chat is back!
- A nickname is required. Use your real name if possible. 16 characters maximum.
- Messages in the Idiot's Delight Chat can be up to 400 characters in length.
- The Idiot's Delight Chat is not moderated and no user has the ability to kick or ban any other user. Everyone is equal, and any person 18 years of age or older is welcome to participate.
- No registration, other than choosing a nickname, is necessary to engage in the Idiot's Delight Chat.
- Choose a good nick to start with, because you'll not be able to change it once you're in the chat.
- A transcript (log file) of the chat is kept, so be careful what you say!
TECHNICAL: This chat is based upon phpFreeChat. On the server-side, as its name suggests, this chat uses the PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) scripting language. On the client-side (that's you, you iddiot), this chat uses AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, or eXtensible Markup Language), XHTML (eXtensible HyperText Markup Language), and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), so you'll need a browser of recent vintage that...
- has cookies enabled and
- has JavaScript enabled and
- if you're a Microsoft Windows user running a version of Internet Explorer (IE) lower than version 7, you'll need ActiveX enabled in your browser because older versions of IE use internal ActiveX controls to support AJAX. Note that no ActiveX controls will be served to you from this Web site. All of the necessary controls are already on your system. They were installed there as part of your operating system. Also note that this chat, regardless of browser or operating system, does not use Java applets.
- Because this chat uses HTTP over TCP on remote port 80, there are absolutely no security considerations or firewall configuration requirements on either the server end of the connection or on the client end of the connection. In other words, from a networking viewpoint, if you can access this Web page, you can access the chat.
IMPORTANT: Although this chat is primarily intended to be used while the Idiot's Delight Show is on the air, either on WFUV FM radio (90.7 MHz) or on Sirius satellite radio (The Loft channel 29) and whether broadcast live or a repeat, the chat is open 24/7 and iddiots are invited to avail themselves of it whenever they wish. It would be greatly appreciated, however, that you do not remain logged in to the chat when you're not using it as doing so will cause a considerable amount of needless server traffic. Thank you!
HINTS: After you've logged in to the chat, use the /help command to display a list of available commands. To log out of the chat, either use the /quit command or click the Disconnect button. Don't forget to log out when you're done chatting.

If it's tech talk that you crave, be sure to check out Leo Laporte's live call-in show on radio station KFI AM 640 kHz in Los Angeles each Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 11 AM to 2 PM Pacific Time (2 PM to 5 PM Eastern Time). The show is streamed live over the Internet, is syndicated nationally on over 50 local AM radio stations, and is also carried on XM satellite radio (America's Talk channel 158). Show notes and archived audio files of previous shows can be found on Leo's Tech Guy Labs Web site. Leo also produces over a dozen other shows per week on topics ranging from biotechnology to computer security, all of which can be accessed via the TWiT Netcast Network.
